Escrick C of E Primary School

Escrick Church of England School is a voluntary controlled Primary School catering for children between the ages of 4 and 11.

Escrick Church of England School is located in the picturesque village of Escrick, six miles to the south of York on the A19 trunk road to Selby. The school is housed in two buildings. The older of the two buildings dates from 1856 and the newer building was opened in 1974. The school is a delightful mixture of woodland, grassland and garden.

The emphasis in the school is to make learning a pleasure and to this end we have tried to create an atmosphere which is an extension of the home. All parts of the school have comfortable areas, surrounded by attractive displays of their work reflecting the curriculum. The importance attached to the work of the children can be witnessed throughout the school in the care which is taken to display their work.

Queen Margaret's School

Queen Margaret's School is a selective school for girls aged 11-18, the vast majority of whom are boarders. The School was established in Scarborough in 1901, moved to Pitlochry, Scotland, during the First World War, to Castle Howard, Yorkshire, during the Second World War, and finally to Escrick Park in 1949.

Prior to 1949, the magnificent country house which became the school, built with the assistance of John Carr in 1758, was a private residence. The Main Building still has the atmosphere of a spacious home, and yet is the nucleus of a school campus of almost 70 acres for some 360 girls.

To celebrate its centernary year, the school launched an appeal to raise money for a new, modern theatre and chapel. When completed, the theatre and chapel will be used for drama and musical performances to which the local community will be invited. There are close links with Escrick C of E Primary School, which makes use of the school's new indoor swimming pool.

Fulford Comprehensive School

Fulford School opened in 1963 and has been comprehensive since 1970. Fulford is situated in a pleasant residential area just outside the city boundary and draws its pupils mainly from the villages to the south and east of the city.

In recent years, because of the school's success there has been a steady increase in the pupils from outside the catchment area and the school has been consistently oversubscribed.

The accommodation, which includes an outdoor swimming pool, has been considerably adapted and development continues. There are extensive computer facilities which include six fully equipped computer areas, with internet access, as well as considerable equipment situated in departmental areas.

Designation of Specialist Status has resulted in the creation of further buildings for Mathematics and Computing. In addition a £3.5 million capital building programme involving a 2 storey 14 classroom block, 2 Science Laboratories and refurbishment of 2 Design and Technology areas is due for completion by September 2004.
